In a major victory for the Sri Lankan armed forces, soldiers seized a rebel coastal stronghold on Friday establishing a land link to the ethnic Tamil heartland on Jaffna peninsula. This is a key victory against the LTTE, with the capture of the town of Pooneryn, the Sri Lankan government will now be able to access the previously isolated, government-controlled Jaffna peninsula by land, instead of depending on boats and aircraft.
