Hyundai Grand i10 Nios launched: Top five highlights

Post much wait, Hyundai has finally launched the Grand i10 Nios in India. The feature-loaded hatchback is available in four variants – Era, Magna, Sportz and Asta. Interestingly, both the petrol and diesel variants can be had with a five-speed manual and AMT options (in select variants). Here below are the top five highlights in the newly launched Hyundai Grand i10 Nios.

Design

The newly launched Hyundai Grand i10 Nios conveys a modern design and versatile compact package. Some of the distinctive highlights include boomerang-shaped LED DRLs, projector headlamps and fog lamps and a glossy black radiator grille. The sides look stylish with chrome door handles, integrated roof rails, shark fin antennae and R15 diamond cut alloy wheels. The car also sports the distinctive G-i10 branding on the C-pillar.

Premium and spacious cabin

The Grand i10 Nios gets premium seat upholstery, leather-wrapped steering wheel, bolstered front seats with convex shaped headrest and the rear seats have been designed to offer superior thigh and back support. As for convenience, the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios offers tilt steering, engine start/stop button, driver seat height adjustment and electrically adjustable and folding outside mirrors.

Innovative technology

Hyundai boasts of offering the segment-first 20.25cm touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity in the Grand i10 Nios. In addition to the voice recognition feature, the system now gets comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The screen can also be used as a rearview monitor via the rear parking camera. The new Hyundai Grand i10 Nios offers segment-first features like a wireless phone charger and Arkamys sound system with four modes - Natural, Live, Lounge and Club. The Eco Coating technology claims to eliminate unpleasant smell in the AC evaporator by degrading the micro-organisms developed in the AC Evaporator Core.

New powertrain options

The Grand i10 Nios is the first Hyundai product to offer a BS-VI compliant 1.2-litre petrol engine. The BS-VI compliant diesel engine is likely to arrive sometime early in 2020. Both the engines get a five-speed manual as standard, while AMT option is available in select variants. As per ARAI figures, the petrol manual returns a fuel efficiency figure of 20.7kmpl, while the automatic returns 20.5kmpl. The 1.2-litre diesel manual and automatic return the same fuel efficiency figure of 26.2kmpl.

Ride and handling

Hyundai boasts that the Grand i10 Nios is equipped with balanced suspension system and it offers confident steering for easy manoeuvrability. The front suspension is mounted with McPherson Strut type with Urethane Bump Stopper to offer stability at rough road drives and reduces body roll giving improved cornering performance. The rear suspension uses Coupled Torsion Beam Axle with a vertical shock absorber that minimizes shock rebound to provide a comfortable and stable ride. Moreover, the company claims that the advanced aerodynamics with strong body structure and extensive use of sound-absorbing materials offers superior NVH isolation for a quiet and pleasant driving experience.
