Facebook Messenger set to get WhatsApp's biggest feature
Tuesday, October 16, 2018 IST
NEW DELHI: Social networking giant Facebook is all set to introduce a popular WhatsApp feature in Facebook Messenger. The company will soon bring the ‘unsend’ button to Facebook Messenger. According to a leak, the company has already started testing the feature and it is also available for some of its users.
Tipster Jane Manchun Wong has posted some screenshots on Twitter which shows the unsend feature being used in the Facebook Messenger app. It is still not clear as to when the company started testing the feature and when it will begin the official roll out of the same.
The tipster further adds that the source code indicates that users will only have a limited time frame to unsend the message they have sent. In response to the unsend button, Facebook spokesperson told Techcrunch, “Facebook internally tests products and features before they ship to the public so we can ensure the quality of the experience.”
The company announced that it will bring the unsend button to its Messenger app in April this year. The talk about the unsend button started in the same month, when a news surfaced online suggesting that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has deleted some messages from the recipient's inbox. The news created a lot of problems for the social networking giant as the Messenger app didn’t have an unsend button and many saw it as a violation of trust.
The other services owned by Facebook such as WhatsApp and Instagram already have an unsend feature in place, which enables users to recall the messages that they have sent by mistake.
Recently, the company also tweaked its ‘Delete for everyone’ feature for WhatsApp. The company has revealed that it has updated 'Recipient limit' of its 'delete for everyone' feature.
According to WABetaInfo, the company is rolling out a new update after which if the recipient of a message has not received the delete request for a message within 13 hours, 8 minutes, and 16 seconds then the message will not be deleted.
