There seems to be no end to the nepotism debate. The most recent Bollywood celeb to be hit by the ‘N’ bomb is none other than Karan Johar. This happened after he announced his next film, Takht. The ambitious film will star a host of Bollywood big names including Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Janhvi Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal and Bhumi Pednekar.
Immediately after that, Karan was trolled for promoting nepotism. However, the filmmaker took on trolls like a pro and shut them up with smart one-liners. He used a combination of wit and sarcasm to tackle them.
A Twitter user named Arnab Ganguly, wrote: “Another example of #Nepotism by @karanjohar .Favoring friends, kids of friends, family and relatives. I hate watching Bollywood films now. The industry is run like a dynasty now.”
Karan came back with “You must stop immediately or the world will come to a drastic end!”.
Yet another person called Sharbani Mukerjee, said: “soooo Karan @karanjohar’s new film #Takht is not under Dharma Productions rather Nepotismismyname Productions.”
To her, Karan wrote back: “Ma’m...your clever coinage is original and has a dash of humour but nothing can match your beautiful DP image! Hand on chin and looking at an undisclosed location....”
To a third user named Siddharth Keskar’s commented, “Thanks for promoting Extra Marital affairs”, Karan came back with “Hello uninformed person! You cannot promote something that is already a big hit!” The exchange had to do with the filmmaker’s Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna that completed 15 years recently.
Some users also taunted him by saying that he ought to have taken Taimur Ali Khan in the film while many others mocked that Taimur is busy being groomed to be the future prime minister.
Takht is said to a tale of war, love, ambition, family, betrayal and power set in the Mughal era.
