Egyptians outraged after picture of couple making out on top of Great Pyramid goes viral

A picture has gone viral on social media that shows a couple in a sexual position atop the Great Pyramid in Egypt.  According to DailyMail, the picture was taken by a Danish photographer and it has now sparked an outrage in the country.

The man, identified as Andreas Hvid, posted the explicit picture on his website and it was also found on YouTube and Twitter a few hours later.

The picture shows the man and a woman in a sexual position atop the world famous landmark. After the picture went viral, many Egyptians expressed their anger on social media and authorities started an investigation.

The case has now been referred to the prosecutor general by the Minister of Antiquities, reported Ahram Online

Khaled El-Anamy, the current Minister of Antiquities, said Andreas’ actions were a violation of public morality.

The man also shared a video on YouTube that showed him and the unidentified woman climbing the 4000-year-old Great Pyramid

The video was taken down from social media but later re-shared on Andreas’ YouTube channel. It now has over 8.4 lakh views.

“In late November 2018, a friend and I climbed the Great Pyramid of Giza (a.k.a. Pyramid of Khufu, Pyramid of Cheops). Fearing to be spotted by the many guards, I did not film the several hours of sneaking around at the Giza Plateau, which lead up to the climb.” Andreas wrote in the YouTube description box.

The picture soon resulted in a major backlash on social media.

One user wrote, “In my opinion, the nude stuff is very disrespectful and ignorant.”

On behalf of historians and archaeologists everywhere, I hope you both end up in jail,” wrote another user.
