Gauri Khan Birthday: Throwback to the time when she renamed Shah Rukh Khan to Abhinav

What was difficult for Gauri Khan was to convince her parents that Shah Rukh Khan was the right man for her. She was a Hindu and he was a Muslim and that was the biggest roadblock between them.

The ravishing Gauri Khan is celebrating her 48th birthday today. Wife of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, Gauri may not be in the media eye all the time but she is unarguably the most popular star wife in the Hindi film industry. And her popularity is not only courtesy her superstar husband. She is an interior designer by profession and has designed abodes of Bollywood stars including Ranbir Kapoor, Jacqueline Fernandez and Varun Dhawan.

Gauri has been with SRK since the time when he was a nobody. In fact, it was after their marriage that King Khan started working in films.

While the couple’s initial days in Mumbai were no cakewalk, Gauri calls the journey amazing. In an interview with designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, she had said, “It's been an amazing journey. When I came to Bombay, it was very difficult. I enjoyed every bit of it but it was so new and life was so different.”

In fact, what was more difficult for Gauri was to convince her parents that Shah Rukh was the right man for her. She was a Hindu and he was a Muslim and that was the biggest roadblock between them. So both decided on renaming Shah Rukh to Abhinav so that he could be passed off as a Hindu boy.

Talking about this, she had said in the same interview, “My parents were not for it. We were so young and to take a decision to get married to a person who is going to join films and being from a different religion. We changed his name to Abhinav so that they think that he is a Hindu boy but that was really silly and really childish.”

The truth about SRK’s religion, of course, came out in the open later and they get married without keeping things under the wrap. The rest, ladies and gentlemen, is history!
