Four children and two women were killed and at least six others were injured, two of them critically, after a five-storey building collapsed in northwest Delhi’s Sawan Park near Ashok Vihar Phase-3 on Wednesday morning.
The incident prompted chief minister Arvind Kejriwal to order a magisterial probe and announce compensation to the affected families. The victims included a 25-year-old woman and her two children, aged three and two.
Twenty-five people from four families were living on the top three floors of the building, which locals as well as the police said was weak and had been “tilting dangerously” for over a year.
The first floor was lying unoccupied after a family living in it had vacated, allegedly because of the building’s condition.
