'He is finished,' MS Dhoni criticised on Twitter after slow knock in 1st T20I against Australia
Tuesday, February 26, 2019 IST

Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni struggled with the bat yet again as he could only score 29 runs off 37 balls at a strike rate of 78.38 as India lost the thriller by three wickets.

Australia clinched a thrilling three-wicket win in the first T20I at the Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy Cricket Stadium in Vizag on Sunday. The game went down the wire with the visitors requiring 14 runs off the final over. Pat Cummins and Jhye Richardson showed great composure and helped the Aussies take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series by winning the low-scoring encounter. MS Dhoni, who had a poor outing with the bat in the game was criticised on Twitter for another sluggish knock.

Batting first, India could manage to post only 126 runs on the board after a middle order collapse. After opener Rohit Sharma (5) was sent back cheaply, KL Rahul (50) and skipper Virat Kohli (24) posted a 55-run stand for the second wicket to set the stage for a big total, however, some tight bowling from the Aussies saw India crumble.

Dhoni scored an unbeaten 29 runs to help India reach a respectable total at the end. However, it was his strike rate which didn't go down well with the fans, who trolled the former Indian captain on Twitter. His 29 runs came off 37 deliveries with the help of a solitary six as he remained unbeaten. He also denied Yuzvendra Chahal the strike in the death overs and took the matters in his own hands but clearly failed to middle the ball.

Here's how Twitter bashed MS Dhoni for his slow knock:

Dhoni's slow knock didn't help India's cause at the end as Australia won the last-ball thriller with three wickets to spare. Nathan Coulter-Nile was the chief destructor for the visitors and finished with figures of 26/3 in his four overs. Glenn Maxwell struck a brilliant half-century (56 off 43 balls) and combined with D Arcy Short (37) to put Australia in cruise control, however, Indian bowlers made a strong comeback towards the end to ensure the match went down the wire.

Cummins (7) and Richardson (7) remained unbeaten to take Australia home by scoring 14 runs from Umesh Yadav's final over.
