No More Settling Of Challans On Road

Listen up, Dilli walo! Adherence to traffic rules is about to get a whole lot stringent under the new Motor Vehicles Act and you’ll have to head to a court if you’re caught violating any rules. Pay close attention to what we’re about to tell you.

Tareek Pe Tareek?! | Due to the amendment in the existing Motor Vehicle Act, Delhiites will not only have to pay increased penalties for traffic violations but will also have to settle all their challan amounts by heading over to a court instead of paying them on the spot. Now, this is because the Delhi Government has not yet notified the new penalties under a section of the Act which concerns on-the-spot settling of challans.

Out of the 98 offences under the MV Act, only 17 offences such as misbehaving with traffic cops, drunk-driving and more were settled in court earlier. But now all the violations will have to be settled in a court. Several traffic officials said that going to the court to pay challans for minor offences will be inconvenient for both the offender as well as their staff members.

Plus, as per the revised MV Act, an amount of Rs 1,000 will be charged as a penalty for offences such as speeding, riding without helmets & skipping red lights which were earlier as low as Rs 100 and Rs 400. Also, on the first day, a total of who 3,900 challans were issued - woah!

So, gear up, Delhiites for these all new changes in the city’s traffic rules!
