Mahindra Funster Open-Top Concept Can Do 0-100 KMPH In 5 Seconds

Mahindra Funster produces 312 horsepower and it is claimed to have a top speed of 200 kmph while the 0-100 kmph is dealt within 5 seconds

Mahindra says ‘Play-for-fun’ is the “core experience” personifying the Funster and you could readily see that in the way it has been styled and the technology it is said to have incorporate. Termed the sports electric vehicle, it is the only performance-based EV design study showcased by the homegrown auto major at the opening press day of the 2020 Auto Expo in India Expo Mart, Greater Noida.

The company boasts that the convertible concept enables seamless acceleration courtesy of the dual electric motors and a dedicated all-wheel-drive configuration. The Mahindra Funster is claimed capable of delivering a maximum power output of 230 kW (just over 312 horsepower) and it can do a top speed of 200 kmph. But it is highly unlikely that the Funster will be put into production.

Due to the presence of the electric powertrain, the zero to 100 kmph acceleration can be achieved in just about five seconds. The performance characteristics come courtesy of the high capacity 59.1 kWh battery pack, which is said to have an impressive driving range of 520 km on a single charge. It comes with floating tail lamps, and ‘sports shoe’ inspired wheel arches.

Up front, you could readily see LED headlamp with triplet of fog lamps grafted to the bumper. The front fascia comprises of an illuminated toothed Mahindra grille and sharp LED Daytime Running Lights positioned right above the headlamps. The open-top concept has a flashy rear end with the LED tail lamps covering the entire width and it also looks to act as a spoiler for aerodynamic benefits.

With 2+2 configuration, the Mahindra Funster concept has scissor doors and aggressive creases. We do believe that some of the design aspects will inspire the next generation Mahindra XUV500 bound for later this year. However, the zero-emission version of the XUV500 could draw plenty of influence from the Funster in an SUV body type.

Mahindra says that the interior expresses an active sporty lifestyle of the customer and is based with that particular mindset. The cabin comes with a wide dashboard integrated screen as the use of physical buttons has been minimised and the steering wheel with illuminated Mahindra logo looks sporty and futuristic. The switches and dials appear to have been inspired by jet fighters.
