Wednesday, February 27, 2019 IST
DC fast charging will allow an 80 percent charge in an hour for the Wagon R EV, sources claim.
It’s no secret that Maruti Suzuki will launch its first EV in 2020. The carmaker already has a fleet of 50 Wagon R EVs on test across the country. While full specifications of the model are not yet out, we have learned some vital details of the upcoming model. For one, the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R EV will support DC fast charging in addition to AC charging.
Sources in the know inform us that the charging time for the Wagon R EV will be around seven hours with standard AC charging. DC fast charging will allow an 80 percent charge under an hour. The Wagon R EV’s on test sport two charging inputs – the one at the front is for AC charging while the one at the rear is for DC charging. The fast charging capability will be a big plus on the Wagon R and will add a large degree of flexibility to the car’s usage.
The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R’s on test are prototypes, and the final versions for sale will differ in look. The final product is expected to be closer in appearance to the conventional engine Wagon R. The Wagon R EV will also be built on Suzuki’s new-age Heartect platform that was conceived with electrification in mind. On the face of things, the Wagon R EV could be the start of a new chapter for electric cars in India.
