Jalebi poster’s upside-down kiss spawns a flood of hilarious memes. See them here
When filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt and Vishesh Films shared the first poster of their upcoming film Jalebi, featuring Rhea Chakraborty and debutante Varun Mitra, little did they know that it would lead to a sea of memes online.
Soon after the image was shared online on September 3, it received flak for what many on Twitter felt was a direct copy of an iconic shot during the Korean War called the Korean War Goodbye Kiss, clicked in Los Angeles in 1950. The Jalebi poster reverses the order; while the original had a soldier bending down from his train coach and held by fellow soldiers to kiss his wife, the poster has actress leaning from the train window to kiss the actor.
However, what has followed since then is worth a dekko. In a series of hilarious memes online, people have been having a whale of a time.
In a series called Expectations Vs reality, people were seen comparing the spacious compartment from which the actress is leaning out to desperate attempts by Indian travellers, pushing and jostling to get into compartments, even through train windows!
Some others had fun comparing the privileged girl and boy with the other two co-passengers. The comparison ranged from Radhika Apte with TV shows and Bollywood, salary versus boss and targets, BCCI offering coach’s position to Ravi Shastri instead of Anil Kumble and Zaheer Khan, black money and demonetisation, India with her neighbours Bangladesh and Pakistan and more.
