Five Beaches In Goa You Need To Hit Up For Dolphin-Spotting

We love Goa, and spotting dolphins skipping through the waves, carefree and unrestricted has always been the cherry on our cake, and makes for some great photo ops too. Dolphin spotting isn’t an exact science, but at the very least you might want to be in the right area if you plan on increasing your odds!
More than that, it’s relaxing to see nature at its finest, and you might even catch a perfect Goan sunrise at the same time — sounds magical, right? It is! Either take a tour with the dolphin spotting experts, or find a local fisherman to take you out for a small fee. We’ve come up with a list of top places you can hit up, with a good chance that you’ll see some dolphins.

    Palolem Beach.

Palolem beach is popular amongst tourists and for good reason: still retaining most of its natural serenity, Palolem has a whole host of activities — from spotting wildlife, to canyoning. If you want to spot some dolphins, the beach is lined with dozens of local boat owners and fishermen willing to take you out into the Arabian sea for a minimal fee. If, however, you don’t get lucky, Butterfly Island is just a boat-ride away! Secluded and unexplored by the masses, it’s clear blue waters {best explored at sun rise} make for a great place to spot fish, sea urchins and, of course, dolphins.

    Cavelossim Beach

Boasting a white sand beach lined with black lava rocks, Cavelossim is filled with local markets, shacks selling fresh Goan seafood, and plenty of boats you can rent for a trip out to sea. Spend the day trying out adventure water sports, before heading out at sunset along the Sal River. If you’re really lucky, the dolphins might even swim alongside your boat — they’re that friendly!

    Sinquerim Beach

You can also head to the nearby Sinquerim Beach and grab hold of one of the many boats-for-hire for a bit of dolphin spotting. Rates differ by season, and dolphin spotting tends to get a bit pricey with a bit of a wait for tickets. However, you’ll almost always see dolphins once you’re out at sea — plus the typically low price and promise of a sunrise spent being gently lulled by the waves makes it pretty damn appealing. Along the way you’ll also get to see Coco Beach, Fort Aguada Jail and Jimmy Millionaire’s {Parsi entrepreneur Jimmy Gazdar} house.

    Morjim Beach

This white sand beach is also well known for being the home of Olive Ridley turtles. Lined with plenty of sail boats, and even the occasional houseboat, you can find dozens of local boat owners who’ll take you out for a dolphin tour. The quietness of the beach makes for a very relaxing atmosphere, so once you’re done you can come back and just relax on the sandy shores.
