25 boys trafficked to France on pretext of rugby training, CBI registers case against 3 people

CBI found that three Delhi and Faridabad-based agents lured parents of 25 boys, all minors, sometime in early 2016, stating that their kids will be sent to France for the rugby camp.

The central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) claims to have busted a human trafficking racket and booked three people on charges of sending 25 teenage students to France in 2016 for "a rugby training camp".

The central agency registered a case against Lalit David Dean, Sanjeev Raj and Varun Choudhary. "The accused had collected Rs 25 lakh to Rs 30 lakh from the parents and sent the students, aged between 13-18 years, to France on the pretext of rugby training," said a senior officer.

The CBI learnt about the racket this year, only when French investigators caught one of the trafficked boys and approached Interpol.

CBI found that three Delhi and Faridabad-based agents lured parents of 25 boys, all minors, sometime in early 2016, stating that their kids will be sent to France for the rugby camp. After the boys were selected, a small training session was also organised by the accused to convince the parents.

"The agents procured an invitation from France about the purported rugby match, on the basis of which visa was procured from French embassy and tickets were booked," officer said.

The rugby training was a ploy to send these 25 boys to France. CBI claims that visas for students were obtained from French Embassy at Delhi on the basis of forged documents.
