30 Rules Needed To Be Followed By Hindus For Worship

Obtaining happiness and success have always been the sole purpose behind worshipping and following the almighty. Since ages people have been following many rituals and customs in search of peace and satisfaction. This is true that praying God with all your heart will make you have your wishes fulfilled, but mythology says that implementing certain rules will make your prayer more productive. Failing to execute these rules may lead to a lesser effective prayer or may even derail the purpose.

Mentioned below are 30 rules to be followed while worshipping God. These rules if followed will give you the best results in lesser time.

- Worshipping the Panchdev should be mandatory in each and every auspicious occasion. The Pacnchdev is
  formed by Lord Surya, Ganesha, Durga, Shiva, and Vishnu. Including them in everyday prayer will also help
  you get the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi. Wealth, health, and happiness will always be around you if you
  happen to follow this rule properly.

- Tulsi (Basil leaves) should not be offered to Lord Ganesha, Shiva, and Bhairava.

- Goddess Durga should not be offered durva grass. This is especially recommended for Ganesha.

- Surya devta should not be given water from the divine conch (shankh).

- A person should never pluck basil leaves without taking bath. If plucked without bath it is believed that God
  doesn’t accept these leaves when offered.

- Mythology says we should pray 5 times a day. It is believed that the families which follow this never have
  financial or health problems.

* Morning 5 am to 6 am – Brahma pujan and aarti

* 9am to 10 am – Worship again

*Afternoon prayer – after this God should be put to sleep

* Evening 4 pm to 5 pm – Puja and aarti

* Night 8 pm to 9 pm – Sayan puja

- Gangajal should not be kept in any plastic, aluminum or iron vessels. It is advised to be kept in copper vessels.

- Women or Men should not blow the divine conch (shankh) during any awkward situations. If done so Lakshmi
  is said to depart.

- You should never face your back towards the idols of Gods and Goddesses.

- Kettaki flower (Screwpine/umbrella tree/caldera bus) should not be offered to Lord Shiva.

- While worshipping any God to fulfill a wish you should always make a donation (dakshina). While donating take
  a resolution to stop any of your bad habits. The faster you eradicate your negativity the sooner your wish gets
  fulfilled.

- Durva grass should not be offered on Sunday.

- Lakshmi should be offered Lotus flower. You can sprinkle water in this flower till 5 days and offer it again and
  again.

- Wood apple (Bael fruit) which is Lord Shiva’s favorite, is not considered to be stale till 6 months. It can be
  offered again to Shivling after sprinkling water.

- Basil leaves are not considered stale till 11 days. You can sprinkle water daily and offer it to God.

Usually people place the flowers in their hand and offer it to God. But, this is not said to be the right way. We
   should place it on a copper plate and offer it with it’s help.

- We should not store chandan (sandal) in copper utensils.

- You should never light up a diya with the help of another diya. Shastra says that the people who do so will get
  ill.

- We should not give water to Peepal tree on Wednesday and Sunday.

- Puja should be always performed by facing towards East or North. Consider praying between 6 am to 8 am in
  the morning.

- Always consider a woolen mat for prayer.

- Light diya in the morning as well as evening every day in your puja place. One should be filled up with ghee
  and the other with oil.

- After completion of the puja or aarti, we should make 3 parikramas standing at the same place.

- We should not pluck Basil leaves on Sunday, 11th lunar day, 12th lunar day and Sankranti.

- While doing aarti follow this procedure

* Feet of God – Perform 4 circles of aarti

* Umbilicus (nabhi) – 2 times

* Face – 1 or 3 times

* Perform it at-least for 7 times

- Pujaghar should have idols ranging up to 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 inches. We should not have deities bigger than this.
  Standing form of Ganeshji, Saraswati and Lakshmi idols should not be there at your home.

Never establish three idols of Ganeshji or any Goddess, Two shivling, Two shaligram, two idols of Surya devta    and two Gomti chakras.

Keep only prestigious idols at your puja ghar. Don’t keep gifted and wood or fiber idols. Remove broken glass
  immediately. Do not pray broken idols at all, they are restricted according to Shastra and are considered to be
  unlucky. Broken idols should be disposed by performing visarjan. Shivling is the only idol which is not
  considered broken no matter in any condition.

Do not place clothes, accessories, books or pooja samagri on top of your mandir. Screens are very necessary
  for the front of the puja temple. Do not keep photos of your parents in the puja room. Consider keeping the
  pictures in the Nahrity corner of your room.

You can perform circles around idols the following times

* Vishnu – 4 times

* Ganesha – 3 times

* Surya devta – 7 times

* Durga – 1 time

* Lord Shiva – half circle
