MS Dhoni came into the limelight on the international level through some breathtaking performances against Pakistan way back in 2005. At the age of 23, the long-haired boy from Jharkand was making headlines for all the right reasons. Though, his selection into the Indian team wasn't forthcoming, and was a huge surprise for his very own fans.
It was in 2006 that India toured Pakistan for the Test and ODI series. It also was the first tour to the neighboring country for Dhoni. His aggressive batting was in display was across the world, and Pakistan was the latest to witnessed that.
Incidentally, it was during this very tour that then Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf witnessed the heroics of 'Mahi', before going onto tell him that he should never cut his long hair, given it had created quite a buzz. Though, that wasn't the most interesting conversation involving the former Pak President and Dhoni during that tour.
Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly, who was the captain of India when they toured Pakistan in 2006, has revealed that Musharraf had asked from where was Dhoni's talent was unearthed. And 'Dada' replied in a hilarious fashion, stating Mahi was picked from the 'Wagah border'.
"I still remember Pervez Musharraf asking me from where did you get him? I told him he was walking near the Wagah border and we pulled him in," Ganguly told media.
At that very same interaction with the press, the legendary left-hander also opened up about the surprise exclusion of former Indian skipper Mithali Raj from the playing XI in her side's defeat to England in the Women's World T20.
When asked if he was shocked or surprised by Raj missing out from the team, Dada said, "No! I also have also sat in the dug out after captaining India. When I saw Mithali Raj being dropped, I said 'Welcome to the group'."
"Captains are asked to sit, so just do it. I have done it in Faisalabad. I didn't play an ODI game for 15 months when I was probably the best performer in one-day cricket. It happens in life. The best in the world are at times shown the door," the 46-year-old added while recalling the 2006 second Test against Pakistan.
