7 Style Mistakes That Most Men Commit In Order To Look Younger & How To Avoid Them

When it comes to choosing the right suits, fabrics and colours to dress up, it's not always easy for men. The biggest challenge arises when you are trying too hard and pretending to dress up, a few years younger than your actual age. The chances of sartorial blunders are high and it's easy to commit a fashion faux pas or two.

A lot of questions like which sneakers to wear or which type of jeans to sport, come aboard. But the good news is, that certain clothes and style can really complement every age and the best part is you don’t even have to masquerade yourself into looking unrealistically young. Hence, here are the seven fashion mistakes to avoid at all costs

1. Choosing To Wear Sneakers

While sneakers are a fantastic choice to wear, it all depends on the type of material you are wearing. For example, some sneaker trends are worked keeping in mind the latest trends, for example, dad sneakers, dirty sneakers or chunky sneakers. These trends may not be the best option for all ages to experiment with.

The Fix:

Pick leather sneakers or minimalist pair of shoes, during your grocery shopping or while running errands. The rest of the times, a neat looking pair of leather shoes will suit you better. Driving mocs or boat shoes along with chukka boots can also strike balance for a casual and polished appearance. Try it out.

2. Wearing Baseball Cap As An Accessory

Baseball caps do work as an accessory but if you try and wear it regularly, at every occasion, it will certainly give a wrong impression that you are trying too hard to pull off the trend. There is also nothing more immature than wearing a cap in a tilted manner, just at an attempt to look 'cooler'.

The Fix:

Instead, when you want to experiment, go for a classic hat, for example, Panama hat in cooler, subdued hues as it has the right structure and it will sit well with your face shape. As for more, you can also try wearing fedora hats. As for caps, stick to neutral-hued caps with no loud patterns. Wear them only during the summer months or when necessary.

3. Opting For Unflattering Jeans

Another mistake most gentleman make is picking jeans that don't fit well. Either the pants are too outdated or too baggy to wear. On the other side, there are ripped jeans with holes getting bigger by the day and that's again not very age-appropriate.

The Fix:

If you wish to look tasteful and on-point, stick to classics. Your pants need to have minimal details that aren't too light or dark. Moreover, avoid wearing pants that have a super low cut and opt for medium-rise pants. Ensure that the hemline of the pants doesn’t extend beyond the shoes. These hacks will make keep you from committing any style mistakes.

4. Wearing Excessive Patterns

When we say excessive patterns, we don't mean you can't wear florals or paisleys but what we mean, is that try to avoid it, if it looks OTT due to the bold colour or its pattern.

The Fix:

You don't need to make fashion boring, instead, you can incorporate colours and patterns, in small doses for example on your ties, boutonniere or pocket squares. If you are wearing a bold shirt, keep other things muted to not overwhelm your style.

5. Dressing Like A Teenager

Flip flops, graphic tees, printed sweatshirts etc. all look uber-cool but the silhouette of these trends may sometimes look overboard and not always be your best bet. But, there are other alternatives which can make you look younger, but in a subtle way.

The Fix:

Instead of shorts, experiment with the fabric. A nice pair of cotton or linen shorts have a modern vibe and instead of flip flops, that are okay by the pool, can be swapped for a pair of loafers or boat shoes. You can also wear Birkenstocks or espadrilles as they actually look great at any age.

As for the T-shirts, solid T-shirts are your best bet. Say no to V necks at all costs, as it can put a lot of focus on your neck area. Instead, go for crew necks or Henleys. You can always layer the style with a classy pair of a denim jacket or a subtle, striped lightweight shirt to add breezy vibe to the look.

6. Don't Be Obsessed With Quirky Socks

Louder patterns can be overwhelming and the same is true with socks as well. Bold coloured, OTT socks with off-beat prints, can divert attention and fail the whole look.

The Fix:

Avoid anything that's too bright on the ankle with your shoes. Instead, two-toned socks are subtle and visually interesting that club well with most shoes and outfits. Try it out.

7. Avoid Wearing ‘Cool’ Necklaces

Something that was cool in 1991, may not be a great option in 2020. We are talking about some men wearing shark tooth necklaces, which are the most immature piece of jewellery.

The Fix:

If you still want to pair accessories with your outfit, you can always stick to an ultra-simple bracelet on your wrist instead of wearing a necklace because it is truly time to let go of the toothed necklace and embrace some new jewellery pieces.
