Affordable hybrid/electric cars of India you can ACTUALLY buy: Maruti Ciaz to Mahindra Scorpio

While India is inching towards the electric and cleaner mobility in the future, what are the cleaner hybrid and electric cars that you can buy right now? Yes, there are many options when you move up the budget ladder but even in the affordable category, there are a few options. We bring you all the vehicles that are affordable and are hybrid in India.
 

 
 

Mahindra E2O Plus
 
Price: Starts at Rs. 8.51 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi
 
 
The E2O plus is the only electric hatchback available in India at the moment. Mahindra launched the e2o Plus last year in India that replaced the two-door version of the vehicle. The e2o Plus gets more and is more practical too. Mahindra also offers a commercial fleet version of the vehicle that gets extended range with 280 AH lithium-ion battery. The regular versions get 210 AH battery pack.
 
The car is powered by a 25.5 Bhp electric motor that generates 70 Nm torque. The regular version can do 110 km on a full charge while the fleet version can do 140 km. It takes about 6 hours to charge and there is no fast charging available for the regular models. The fleet version gets a fast charger that can charge the battery in 1 hour 35 minutes. The car can be connected to a smartphone and can be controlled by it.
 
Mahindra e-Verito
 
Price: Starts at Rs. 10.39 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi
 
 
The e-Verito is the sedan full-electric vehicle available in India. The car is available in four different variants and there is no fleet version of the same. Mahindra is also supplying the e-Verito to ESSL through a contract that it won last year. The base version carries an 189 AH battery pack while the higher-end versions carry 252 AH battery pack. It is powered by a 41 Bhp – 90 Nm electric motor.
 
The battery lasts for 110 km for the base version and 140 km for the higher versions. It also gets quick charging that can charge the battery in 1 hour 30 mins. Regular charging takes 11 hours 30 mins. It also gets regenerative braking that charges the battery whenever the brake is applied.
 
Mahindra Scorpio
 
Price: Starts at Rs. 9.97 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi
 
 
Mahindra introduced the mild-hybrid system in the Scorpio last year to provide customers with the FAME benefits. With the facelifted version of the vehicle, Mahindra has added the mild-hybrid system as standard across all the variants.
 
The mild-hybrid system is an intelligent start-stop plus energy regeneration system. It kick-in during acceleration and helps the vehicle to cut down on fuel consumption. It increases the mileage of the vehicle.
 
Maruti Ciaz
 
Price: Starts at Rs. 10.67 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi
 
 
Maruti became the first manufacturer in the country to launch the mild-hybrid car, the Ciaz in India. Maruti calls it Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS) and it is only available with the diesel engine option. The car became very popular in India due to the FAME benefits that lowered its cost. The mild hybrid system gets a bigger battery that turns off the engine during idling and supports all the electrical system including AC and infotainment unit. The mild-hybrid system also helps the engine during the acceleration that increases the mileage by a good deal. It has an ARAI rated fuel efficiency of 26.21 km/l, which is highest in the segment and one of the highest in India.
 
Maruti Ertiga
 
Price: Starts at Rs. 9.86 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi
 
 
Maruti also launched the Ertiga MUV in India with the same SHVS mild hybrid system. It is the only MUV in India with the mild-hybrid system. Similar to the Ciaz, it is only available with the diesel-powered Ertiga and works in the same way too. As per ARAI, the Ertiga returns a maximum of 24.52 km/l.
