Hyundai Venue price is so good that it may spell trouble for Vitara Brezza, EcoSport, Nexon, XUV300

New Hyundai Venue was launched in India on May 21 at an introductory price of Rs 6.50 lakh (ex-showroom). It combines a modern design with numerous segment-first features, making it a powerful player in the compact SUV segment.

HIGHLIGHTS

The introductory price of Hyundai Venue is a whopping Rs 1.18 lakh less than that of Vitara Brezza.
With such a low starting price, we can definitely expect the new Venue to give a tough competition to Vitara Brezza
There is not much price difference between the entry-level diesel variants of Venue and Vitara Brezza.

Hyundai Venue has finally debuted in India. Ever since the compact SUV was unveiled in the country on April 17, people were eagerly awaiting its launch and to be honest, Hyundai Motor India has surprised us all with the prices of the new Venue.

Launched in India on May 21 at an introductory price of Rs 6.50 lakh (ex-showroom), Hyundai Venue combines a modern design with numerous segment-first features, making it a powerful player in the compact SUV segment.

To establish itself in a segment that already has feature-loaded vehicles like Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon and Ford EcoSport, Hyundai Motor India had to do something different. Something that would attract buyers towards the new Venue. The company has tried to do the same with Hyundai Venue prices.

Hyundai Venue has been priced not only aggressively but also diligently, in view of the prices of its rivals. The introductory price of Hyundai Venue is a whopping Rs 1.18 lakh less than that of Vitara Brezza, Rs 1.33 lakh lower than that of EcoSport and Rs 1.40 lakh less than that of XUV300. Only Nexon has a lower starting price than Venue and that too by just Rs 2,000.

Below is the price range of the five compact SUV segment players.

-- Tata Nexon : Rs 6.48 lakh - Rs 10.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)
-- Hyundai Venue : Rs 6.50 lakh - Rs 11.10 lakh (ex-showroom, India)
-- Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza : Rs 7.68 lakh - Rs 10.64 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)
-- Ford EcoSport : Rs 7.83 lakh - Rs 11.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)
-- Mahindra XUV300 : Rs 7.90 lakh - Rs 11.99 lakh (ex-showroom, India)

With such a low starting price, we can definitely expect the new Venue to give a tough competition to Vitara Brezza, the compact-SUV segment leader. In February 2019, Maruti Suzuki India had reported that four lakh units of Vitara Brezza were sold in less than three years since its launch in March 2016.

One also has to keep in mind that Vitara Brezza is available only in a diesel option. On the other hand, Venue gets both diesel and petrol options. The price tag of Rs 6.50 lakh (ex-showroom, India) is for the entry-level petrol variant of Venue. However, there is not much price difference between the base diesel variants of both the compact SUVs. While Hyundai Venue 1.4 CRDi MT E is priced at Rs 7.75 lakh (ex-showroom, India), Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza LDI is a tad bit cheaper at Rs 7.68 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

So far as the entry-level diesel variants of the other three players are concerned, Nexon XE is priced at Rs 7.49 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), EcoSport Ambiente at Rs 8.43 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and XUV300 W4 at Rs 8.49 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

However, if one is planning to buy an automatic variant, then there is much price difference between the compact SUVs. The entry-level automatic trim of Hyundai Venue, 1.0 Turbo GDI DCT S (petrol), is priced at Rs 9.35 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The base automatic trim of Vitara Brezza, VDI AMT, is Rs 65,000 cheaper at Rs 8.70 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Ford EcoSport's entry-level automatic variant, 1.5-litre Petrol Trend Plus, gets a price tag of Rs 9.77 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and it is Rs 42,000 more than that of Venue. In terms of entry-level automatic trims, Tata Nexon XMA (petrol) has the lowest price at Rs 7.84 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Mahindra XUV300 is not available in an automatic option as of now.
