WhatsApp gets new features, chat filters and restrict groups now give more power to users

This is the season of changes for WhatsApp. From having a new boss to Facebook announcing new features for it at F8 2018 conference, WhatsApp has sure come a long way from being a simple chat app into becoming so many things today.

WhatsApp is a simple chat app. The working model of the app is as basic as it can be. This makes the app easy to use but also boring at times. So to keep the app engaging and make chatting more fun, WhatsApp constantly pushes updates. The new updates offers a breath of fresh air to the app. WhatsApp on iOS has recently received an update that allows iPhone users to watch Instagram and Facebook videos in-app. This feature is available on iOS version 2.18.51.

There is another important update expected to come soon on WhatsApp that will allow users to make group video and voice calls from the app. But these are not the only updates coming on WhatsApp. Here is a list of new features that have already come or are on cards for WhatsApp:

1. Chat filters: Searching for a keyword within WhatsApp chat can be annoying at times. WhatsApp is working on to resolve this problem. Chat filter, feature that is yet to roll out to everyone, will allow users to search for a particular word using a set of filters. Tapping on Search will open a Filter list which will allow you to apply filters like unread chats, broadcasts messages, or groups. However, this feature may only be restricted to WhatsApp business.

2. Ability to watch Instagram and FB video in WhatsApp: In an another new update to iOS users, WhatsApp is allowing users to run Facebook and Instagram videos inside WhatsApp. This means you can now tap on a Facebook or Instagram video link and it will play inside WhatsApp instead of opening in their respective app.

3. Restrict groups: WhatsApp's fan site WaBetaInfo talks about a new feature that will give more power to a group admin. According to the report, WhatsApp Restrict group feature will allow only administrators to send out messages. All the others members in the chat can only read but not reply to the message. In case someone wants to add something to the message then he/she will have to message the admin.

4. Request Info: Thanks to the new EU law that comes in effect from MAY 25, WhatsApp now allows users to download all the WhatsApp data using Request info feature and export or port to another app. It contains your WhatsApp data like all your profile pictures and groups.

5. iOS Business app: WhatsApp Business which is already available for Android users is now coming to iOS users. WhatsApp Business is a business app from WhatsApp that connects businesses and customers.
