IND vs ENG 2016, 5th Test, Day 5 – Alastair Cook dropped on 4 by Parthiv Patel

Live cricket score and live updates from Day 5 of the fifth Test match between India and England at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk. Alastair Cook and his men are 270 runs behind with 10 wickets remaining in their second innings.

Cook and Jennings have got their team to a good start on the final day. The two left-handers have looked vulnerable against Indian spinners, but have ensured that the team doesn't lose any wickets. The opening pair has added 51 runs so far.

Over 15 | Score 29/0 | (Cook 13*, Jennings 16*)

Ashwin has been bowling with a brilliant line and length, troubling both the left-handers. He would have already bagged a wicket today had Parthiv held on to that chance. Both Cook and Jennings are in a defensive mood and that's the right strategy as England are looking to draw the match.

Over 8 | Score 15/0 | (Cook 4*, Jennings 11*)

R Ashwin almost got an early breakthrough for India today, but Parthiv Patel could not hold to an edge from Alastair Cook. The ball spun away from Cook, Parthiv moved towards his left and couldn't hold on to the chance.

Day 4 Recap

Young Karun Nair announced his arrival on the world stage with an unforgettable triple ton (303 not out) as India broke a deluge of records en route their highest ever Test total of 759 for 7 against England. It was a day that solely belongs to the 25-year-old Karun, who become the second Indian batsman after the legendary Virender Sehwag (twice) to hit a triple hundred in Test match cricket.

During his marathon 381-ball innings, Karun hit 32 boundaries and four huge sixes as India took a huge lead of 282 runs before England finished the day at 12 for no loss. With 90 overs remaining on the final day and a reasonably good track to bat on, England will fancy their chance of at least saving the Test.

Resuming at the overnight score of 391-4, Nair and Murali Vijay (29) found the going a bit tough against the duo of Dawson and Stuart Broad.

Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma may come into play if there is some reverse swing on offer for the bowlers which hasn't exactly been the case during the last four days.
