Her last film Padmaavat, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali which also starred Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor made over Rs 300 crore at the box-office. Despite this, Deepika, while delivering her share of blockbusters, also rejected a number of films, which turned out to be big blockbusters at the box-office. Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012)
According to a report in NewsNation, Yash Chopra’s first choice to play Shah Rukh Khan’s love interest in the film was not Katrina Kaif, but Deepika Padukone. However, after she rejected the script, the legendary Indian filmmaker decided to cast Kat instead. Till date, Deepika and SRK have starred in three films – Om Shanti Om, Chennai Express and Happy New Year and all three have been blockbusters.
Dhoom 3 (2013)
The Aamir Khan starrer was the highest-grosser Bollywood blockbuster for a time and to imagine that Deepika Padukone could have played the female lead in the film. Though, she was offered the role first as per the earlier mentioned report, the actress had a tight schedule at the time and consequently had no choice but to pass it on. Once again, the film went to Katrina Kaif, who was loved by fans in the role.
Kick (2014)
Unlike the last two films, the makers didn’t offer Deepika Padukone the role of the female lead, rather she was approached for to do an item number. But the actress was busy shooting for Happy New Year at the time and was also doing an item number titled Lovely in the film. The Padmaavat actress didn’t want to do another, as reveals the above mentioned report.
Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015)
Once again, Deepika Padukone, who was offered the role of the female lead first had to decline it because of her busy schedule. Eventually, Sonam Kapoor took up the role and the film went on to become a huge box-office success. This was a second film Deepika Padukone rejected which had Salman as the lead.
Sultan (2016)
One of the biggest blockbusters of Salman Khan’s career, Sultan was loved by critics and fans alike. And not just Salman Khan, fans loved Anushka Sharma’s performance in the film equally. However, little do they know that Deepika Padukone was approached first for this role, which once again, she had refused. To this day, Deepika Padukone has never starred opposite Salman Khan, in a film.
