5 natural ways to keep acidity at bay during winters - Home remedies for acid reflux and heartburn

Acid reflux, commonly known as acidity is a very common problem and can be treated with home remedies like buttermilk, cold milk, bananas, carrom seeds, tulsi leaves and more.

New Delhi: Acidity is a common problem faced by a lot of people when they feel a slight burning sensation at the bottom of the chest area. This burning is felt due to the acids from the stomach flowing back into the food pipe. Caused due to unhealthy lifestyle practices like not eating on time, over-eating, very oily and spicy food intake, etc., acidity is an extremely common problem. Chances of acidity are high during winters because of the lazy routine that people follow because of the cold weather outside.

Acidity can be treated by antacids like Eno, and also can be easily treated with home remedies. Home remedies have been famous for treating regular problems for ages now and acidity is also one of them. Next time you feel the burning sensation right above your stomach, here is what you should do.

Cold buttermilk

Buttermilk is a soothing drink that can really help with acidity and other stomach problems. People recommend drinking buttermilk with their food as it improves digestion and avoids acidity. Buttermilk is also a nutritious drink to include in your diet for a healthy life.

Cold milk

If the problem of acidity has already begun, one way to treat it is also by drinking cold milk. Milk absorbs the acid and neutralises its effect. Plain milk, without any sugar additives, is very helpful in treating acidity.

Bananas

Bananas can help keep acidity at bay as they contain potassium, which helps maintain the pH levels of the stomach lining. They are a rich source of other nutrients also and are a very healthy snacking option also.

Ajwain or Carrom seeds

Ajwain or carrom seeds are full of anti-acidic properties. You can boil carrom seeds in water and drink the water to treat acidity or just swallow a mix of carrom seeds and black salt to ensure the acid in your stomach is neutralised.

Tulsi leaves

Tulsi leaves is one of the most popular medicinal plants and can be used to treat acidity also. Tulsi aids digestion and reduces the formation of gas and burning in the stomach. One way to use Tulsi leaves is to eat them raw as a part of your morning routine or eat them after your meal or just boil them in water and drink the water to treat the problem.
