Mughal dynasty ‘heir’ says sorry for Ram temple razing

LUCKNOW: Self-proclaimed descendant of Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar, Yakub Habeebuddin Tucy, in a letter to Hindu Mahasabha on Sunday, apologised to the Hindu community for "the destruction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya in 1528 by the commander of his ancestors' army."

Tucy in his letter claimed that it was his ancestor Babar's commander Mir Baqi who destroyed the Ram temple in Ayodhya in the16th century. "I am the sixth generation descendant of Babar and by that position I apologise from the bottom of my heart to the entire Hindu community and to all Ram devotees for the destruction. I say this in all my consciousness and will stand by the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya by all means possible," wrote Tucy.

Handing over the letter to Swami Chakrapani Maharaj, national president of the Hindu Mahasabha, Tucy said, "Even Babar in his will had condemned the act and had called it a blot. He had instead asked respect to be given to saints and mahatmas and protection to temples in the country."

Tucy through his letter also appealed to all Muslim petitioners in the Ramjanmbhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit to stop doing politics in the name of Babri Masjid. "They should all take their petitions back and instead help in the construction of the Ram Temple so that an example of Hindu-Muslim unity could be set."
