Perfect Eco-Friendly Solution: This Image Proves We Do Not Need Plastic To Serve And Eat Food
Friday, September 6, 2019 IST
Going eco-friendly and skipping all that plastic is the need of the hour.
In keeping with the world’s need to get rid of plastic use of as many as six items will be banned from October 2 in India. These include plastic bags, cups, plates, small bottles, straws and certain types of sachets, basically all single-use plastic.
There are people who are starting initiatives and making others aware of plastic alternatives.
Recently, Initiative United North-East posted an image on their Facebook page which attracted a lot of attention for the uniqueness of the idea and the great initiative to stop the use of plastic in one sector.
The image shows delicious ice cream in a banana leaf cup, served with bamboo spoon. It is captioned, ‘Ice cream served in banana leaf cup with bamboo spoon. Small but great start to end plastic waste.’ The page has tagged HoneyDukes Rolled Icecream, situated in the Philippines which might hint that it is their product, however their is no surety of that.
The banana leaves and the bamboo spoons can easily decompose so there is plastic waste to worry about. The image was uploaded on September 3 and it has garnered over 68k shares since then.
In a lot of places bamboo products are replacing plastic. And given the benefits of bamboo that far exceed those of plastic, an eco-friendly water bottle has been developed by former IITian from Assam, Dhritiman Bora. These bottles come in different sizes and the cost varies between Rs 400 and Rs 600.
So plastic is not irreplaceable, we just need to commit to not using it and finding eco-friendly alternatives. Let us see if this creative idea picks up or not.
