CBSE to introduce new compulsory health science course from April

In a bid to equip young Indians with basic knowledge related to first aid and healthcare, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is likely to include a new subject - health science.

Reportedly, the new course is currently being reviewed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) so that it can be introduced in the new academic session starting April.

Many still unaware of basic healthcare needs

"We had done a small survey prior to planning this course on awareness related to basic health relief like what needs to be immediately done if a dog bites before visiting a doctor. And we found that many are still not aware of basic primary healthcare needs," an official told HT.

Health ministry and AIIMS developed the course's syllabus

The syllabus for the new course was developed by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in collaboration with the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), and will be added to the existing CBSE curriculum for Classes 9, 10, 11, and 12.

The new course will provide guidelines to students on what can be done to provide immediate relief during emergencies.

The course could save a lot of lives

"Because of lack of basic knowledge related to cure, patients are often brought to hospitals when they are critical. Many lives can be saved if the basic steps are followed," the official added.
