Why India spent the day googling for these two words

NEW DELHI: Search interest for two words surged on Google on Thursday -- Fallacious and tendentious.

The reason: UN released a first-ever report on alleged human rights violations in Kashmir and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir, and demanded an international inquiry.

The abuses it blames India of, include:

* Special laws like AFSPA and J&K Public Safety Act (PSA) obstruct normal course of law.
* Allowing rights violations by security forces to be handled by military courts impedes justice.
* Misuse of PSA that authorises authorities to detain citizens for vaguely defined reasons.
* Excessive use of force that led to unlawful killings and high number of injuries.
* Use of pellet-firing shotgun on protesters, torture and enforced disappearances.
* Violations of right to health and education due to long curfews and blackouts.

India's reaction to the UN report: The report is "fallacious, tendentious and motivated", "overtly prejudiced" and seeks to build a "false narrative", the Ministry of External Affairs said, rejecting the report.

It added that the report is a selective compilation of largely unverified information. "The report violates India's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The entire state of Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India. Pakistan is in illegal and forcible occupation of a part of the Indian state through aggression," the MEA said.
