A Celebrated Mixologist Gives Us 5 Scotch Drinking Tips That'll Separate Boys From Men
Friday, December 6, 2019 IST
It's International Men's Day and we thought it's important to speak of every Indian man's one true love - Scotch. Whether it's catching up with your bros, office parties, barbeque evenings or just a game night, it'd be criminal to not have a bottle of Scotch ready and even worse to not know enough about that bottle. So while you're suiting up, here's a guide to some humble bragging for all things Scotch and men.
Gotta fetch one? Or maybe two? Weigh Your Options
Don't just pick the first name on the menu or the one that's easy to pronounce. There are some crazy options out there – premium, super premium, flavoured, double-aged etc. Ask that nice gentleman at the bar about the notes, the grain, where the whisky comes from etc. Explore a little or at least pretend to.
Neat? Water? Ice?
Take your time over this one. It'll make all the difference to the mouthfeel – that basically means how the Scotch whisky feels in your mouth. If you're the one whipping up something for the guests, read the crowd in the room and then make a decision. Watering it down too much can bring disgrace upon your clan (the Scotch whisky lovers may add you to the hate club). On the other hand, throwing in some basic cocktail ingredients might just make you the bartender of the year. A quick fix? Try a Highball.
Fancy up your glasses
If your bartending skills aren't so great, let the glasses do the clinking for you. If it's a neat night, go fetch the tumblers that are perfect for a regular peg and some water or ice. If you're going for some classic cocktails, a tall straight glass can be classy, yet fun.
