“Her conduct has tarnished the image of the Prime Minister of India. He is very respectable for me, he is Ram for me. It’s his insult,” says estranged wife of Modi.
In an apparent snub to Madhya Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel over her reported remark that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not married, Jashodaben, estranged wife of the Prime Minister, said that “she was shocked at Anandiben’s statement.”
“It’s shocking what she said about our marriage,” Ms. Jashodaben said.
Ms. Anandiben reportedly told a gathering that “it was well known that Narendrabhai was not married.”
Ms. Jashodaben said Mr. Modi himself had mentioned about his marriage in his election affidavit in 2014. “He has declared in his affidavit that he is married and has mentioned my name in the document as spouse.”
“It is very unbecoming of a well-educated woman to speak like this of a teacher [herself]. Not only this, her conduct has tarnished the image of the Prime Minister of India. He is very respectable for me, he is Ram for me. It’s his insult,” the former teacher said.
Ms. Jashodaben’s statement in a video went viral in Gujarat on Thursday.
Ashok Modi, Ms. Jashodaben’s brother, said, “We had to issue clarification about PM Modi and Jashodaben’s marriage after Anandiben’s false statement in Madhya Pradesh.”
Ms. Jashodaben lives with her brother in a town in north Gujarat.
