Stray dogs ‘save’ baby girl dumped in drain in Haryana

JIND: Stray dogs “rescued” a newborn girl from a sewage drain, where she was dumped barely hours after birth in Haryana’s Kaithal town on Thursday morning. Police have registered a case against an unidentified woman for the crime.
Wrapped in polythene, the wailing infant was miraculously saved by the dogs that pulled her out from the drain in Dogri gate area and started barking. This alerted passersby and locals who informed police.
The baby was rushed to Kaithal civil hospital where doctors said she had sustained head injuries. The entire episode was captured by CCTV cameras installed nearby, which recorded a woman throwing the newborn wrapped in polythene into the drain and fleeing from the spot.
“She is likely a premature baby born after seven months of pregnancy. We decided to keep her under observation as transit could be life-threatening for her,” said Kaithal civil hospital’s principal medical officer Dinesh Kansal . On Saturday, Kansal told TOI that the baby was still critical and they were thus not able to shift her to a bigger hospital.
