On Thursday, HMD Global announced a brand new Nokia phone in London. The Nokia 7.1 was launched as a successor to last year's Nokia 7. Now the naming may confuse some people into believing this is a Nokia 7 Plus successor, but it's not. The Nokia 7.1 brings some upgraded hardware compared to the Nokia 7. More importantly, it gets a design language that's more in line with the aesthetics of 2018, as well as some new features as well.

The headline new feature is that the Nokia 7.1 is the first Nokia phone to get a PureDisplay screen technology. The other notable inclusion is Zeiss-branded dual cameras on the back. The mid-range Android One phone may come to India as well, so here's what you need to know about the device.

Nokia 7.1 key features

-- The Nokia 7.1 is the first Nokia phone to bring a PureDisplay screen. This means the display supports HDR for better contrast and quality. Platforms like YouTube, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video support HDR content, offering you a more immersive viewing experience. With HDR10 support, the Nokia 7.1 offers a 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio with great detail and vibrant colours. Notably, the device will also upscale SDR content into HDR content.

-- Much like the Nokia 6.1, the Nokia 7.1 is also all about offering a premium design language. The phone comes with Gorilla Glass 3 on the front and back. The fame is a little more polished and refined on the Nokia 7.1. It gets a dual-anodised Series 6000 aluminium frame with diamond cut edges. You also get copper or silver accents (depending on the colour option) all around the frame, buttons, rear cameras and fingerprint sensor.

-- The rear cameras on the Nokia 7.1 comes with Zeiss optics, much like the Nokia 7 Plus. The 12MP + 5MP configuration gets two phase detection support for faster autofocus. The cameras will also support HDR photography for crisper and sharper images and EIS will also help with stabalisation while recording videos. The rear camera supports bokeh effect, Pro Mode and Bothie.

-- The Nokia 7.1 is an Android One device which means it runs stock, bloatware-free Android Oreo out-of-the-box with a promise of regular security updates for three years and two major software updates. HMD says the Nokia 7.1 will be updated to Android 9 Pie very soon.

Nokia 7.1 price and availability

The Nokia 7.1 has been announced for Europe as of now. The company said that it would bring the phone to more markets in the near future. Depending on the area in Europe, the Nokia 7.1 will be available anywhere between 299 to 349 Pounds (approx Rs 28,000 to Rs 33,000).

At the event, HMD did not specifically mention whether the device will be coming to India. However, it is highly possible since HMD is holding an event on October 11 in India where it could announce the Nokia 7.1.
