Preliminary specifications and performance stats of Nvidia’s latest high-end graphics card, the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1170, based on the Turing 12nm process technology has been leaked. The GTX 1170 is set for a launch later this year.
The specifications mentioned in this article are preliminary specs and should be taken with a pinch of salt as they may change in the future as more information is revealed and/or previous information is either confirmed or debunked before the official announcement that might happen during E3 next month.
Specifications:
As per the leaks, the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1170 will be powered by a 104 class GPU, codenamed GT104 that measures around 400mm2. This is the same chip that will be powering the GTX 1180 although for GTX 1170, it will have lower CUDA core and a bit slower memory. The GTX 1170 will integrate 2688 CUDA cores and 168 TMUs and will feature 64 ROPs. The clock speed is expected to be around 1.5 GHz that can be boosted to around 1.8 GHz.
For the RAM, it will have as much as 16 GB of GDDR6 memory with its speed downscaled from 16 Gbps to 12 Gbps. This will reduce the bandwidth down to 384 GB/s and the reduced performance will also lead to a reduced TDP of around 140-160W.
Performance:
According to the leaks, the FP32 theoretical peak speed is expected to be around 9.75 TFLOPS which would put it right beside the GTX 1080 Ti in terms of performance. It also makes it 50% faster than the GTX 1070. So it’s expected that GTX 1170 will perform either equal to or maybe even better than the GTX 1080Ti depending on the final core frequencies.
Price and Release Date:
The Nvidia GeForce GTX 1170 is expected to be launched in the summer. All the rumors suggest that the GPU is almost ready to be released and could be available to be purchased somewhere between July and August.
According to the leaks, GTX 1170 is expected to cost a bit higher than the GTX 1070 and is expected to launch with a US$499 MSRP which is US$50 more than what the GTX 1070 was priced at its launch.
