On Thursday, HMD Global announced a brand new Nokia phone in London. The Nokia 7.1 was launched as a successor to last year's Nokia 7. Now the naming may confuse some people into believing this is a Nokia 7 Plus successor, but it's not. The Nokia 7.1 brings some upgraded hardware compared to the Nokia 7. More importantly, it gets a design language that's more in line with the aesthetics of 2018, as well as some new features as well.
The headline new feature is that the Nokia 7.1 is the first Nokia phone to get a PureDisplay screen technology. The other notable inclusion is Zeiss-branded dual cameras on the back. The mid-range Android One phone may come to India as well, so here's what you need to know about the device.
Nokia 7.1 specifications
Display: The Nokia 7.1 sports a 5.84-inch FHD+ (2246x1080) IPS LCD PureDisplay with a 19:9 aspect ratio
Processor: The phone is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 636 chipset
RAM: It will come in two memory variants - 3GB and 4GB
Internal storage: The 3GB options will come with 32GB of internal storage while the 4GB variant will come with 64GB of internal storage. Both the options will support storage expandability up to 400GB via microSD card.
Rear camera: The Nokia 7.1 sports a dual camera setup that includes a 12-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor.
Front camera: Up front, the Nokia 7.1 gets an 8MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture.
Battery: The device houses a 3,060mAh battery
Software: It will ship with Android 8.1 Oreo and will be updated to Android 9 Pie soon
