These Are The 3 Pregnancy Myths All Pregnant Women Need To Bust
Friday, June 29, 2018 IST
Nearly everybody, everywhere nowadays is a health expert capable of giving the right words of advice, thanks to Google. When it comes to advising expectant mothers, however, myths abound, most of them emanating from half-truths, rumors, and other unverified reports. Claudia Hammond compiled Three of the Main Myths customarily offered to pregnant mothers for BBC and, the list is as humorous as it is unbelievable.
“Eating for two” is the rifest of these lies?
Does it require a plateful of extra calories to support that tiny little one growing inside of you? Certainly not!
It is surprising that this serves as a “fact” out there with almost everyone, including the expectant mother herself believing in it. Claudia, however, manages to debunk how and why it is a lie, mainly after doing 44 randomized controlled trials done on 7,000 women. While reading the post, you also get to know how to help a mother waiting to give birth can eat well as a way of eliminating the most common pregnancy-related complications.
Should an expectant lady board a plane?
Perhaps you’ve noted it – airlines restricting heavily pregnant women from flying. Does it mean flights can result in miscarriages? Or, is it because it isn’t right for a woman to go into labor while high in the skies?
There have been various studies done on this subject, and through the post, Claudia manages to separate the facts from lies. She exhaustively expounds on this very prominent myth and in the end, you can get to know what flight attendants had to say regarding stopping women with pregnancy-induced high blood pressure from flying.
Which other myths about pregnancy have you heard?
Many myths still confuse pregnant mothers, and if only Claudia Hammond could touch on them as well. Some even believe that an expectant woman should not eat smoked salmon, sushi or hot dogs. But perhaps the most unbelievable of them all is the myth that advises women to avoid warm births during pregnancy. However, it is still great that these three are backed up by facts and real-life studies done and concluded by distinguished scientists. Whether it will help defeat the myths, though, remains a question for another day.
3 Myths about Pregnancy is written to help those who interact with pregnant women as well as those of us who are happy carrying a bundle of joy inside of us. This piece by Claudia Hammond is easily readable, insightful and resonates with what we meet every day.
