7 ‘Waste to Wonder’ Theme Park: Features and Facts

Delhi is the national capital territory of India and is regarded as the heart of the nation. No doubt the city is popular for its enriched culture and heritage. Several historical monuments, beautiful gardens etc. are there in the city. Recently, one new theme park also added in the list of Delhi which is amazing, different and based on a theme namely 'Waste to Wonder. It was inaugurated by the Home Minister Rajnath Singh in Rajiv Gandhi Smriti Van.

 
 

One of the most important and impressive fact about this park is that you will see 7 wonders of the world. In fact these 7 wonders of the world are made up of industrial waste and other waste material like scrap metal, discarded auto parts, procured from the landfills of the city. In this way waste material is used into a good form. That is why this park becomes an attraction point for everyone and yes it is unique in itself. The park looks like a tiny island developed in the congested surroundings of the Sarai Kale Khan Inter-State Bus Terminus and Outer Ring Road. It will provide a boost to the 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' and will forge ahead towards transforming waste to wealth.
 
South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has installed solar trees and rooftop panels that will generate 50 KW powers. And the surplus power will be sold to the power distribution companies to earn revenue. Do you know that the park has been constructed within six month's time? In the development of the park around 150 tons of scrap, 5 artists, 7 supporting artists, 70 welders and helpers have been used. According to SDMC the park built at a cost of Rs 7.5 crore and will operate from 11 AM to 11 PM.

7 ‘Waste to Wonder’ theme park: Features and Facts

The theme park consists of 7 wonders of the world as mentioned above that is it has replicas of Taj Mahal, Leaning Tower of Pisa, Great Pyramid of Giza, Eiffel Tower of Paris, Christ the Redeemer Statue of Rio De Janeiro, the Statue of Liberty of the United States of America and Rome's Colosseum.
 
1. Replica of USA's Statue of Liberty
 
 
Waste material used: approx 7-8 tonnes
Height: approx 35 feet
 
Pedestal has been created using old piles, metal railings and angles which give a look of bricks, circular rings are created by using car rims. In her left hand, Roman liberty goddess holds a tablet carved from a MCD bench and metal sheets. In her right hand she holds a torch made up of old bike and its chain. And her hairs are made using cycle chains.
 
2. Brazil’s Christ the Redeemer
 
 
Waste material used: approx 4-5 tonnes
Height: approx 25 feet
 
From benches square pipes are used to make the pedestal. To make the lower part of the statue dress electric poles have been placed vertically. Moto bike chains are used to create hair and engine parts for hands.
 
3. Replica of Paris Eiffel Tower
 
 
Waste material used: approx 40 tonnes
Height: approx 60 feet
 
It is 70 feet tall and made up of wrought-iron lattice and many more automobile wastes like trucks, clutch plates, C channels etc. The three floors of the replica were created separately and assembled with the help of a crane.
 
4. Replica of Taj Mahal
 
 
Waste material used: approx 30 tonnes
Height: approx: 20 feet
 
This beautiful structure of Taj Mahal has been crafted using 1600 cycle rings, electric pole pipes, old pans, park benches, swings, truck springs, sheets etc. And the domes have been created by using 2 pipes, truck sheets have been used to create intricate design, window, and door frame by using benches.

 
 

5.Replica of World’s Largest Amphitheatre Colosseum from Rome
 
 
Waste material used: approx 11 tonnes
Height: approx 15 feet
 
The largest stone amphitheatre called Colosseum which was developed around 70-72 A.D by the Emperor Vespasian of the Flavian dynasty. Wastes that are used to generate it are electric poles, metal railings, bench, automobile spare parts etc. Car wheels are also used to make arches.
 
6. Replica of Leaning Tower of Pisa
 
 
Waste material used: approx 10.5 tonnes
Height: approx 25 feet
 
It was constructed in 12th century. The replica consists of about 211 arches spread out in eight storeys which have been fabricated from cycle rim, diamond designs in between the arches that are made from metal sheets and pipes to look like a pillar.
 
7. Replica of Egypt’s Pyramid of Giza
 
 
Waste material used: approx 10-12 tonnes
Height: approx 18 feet
 
Do you know that the Great Pyramid of Giza is the oldest of the seven wonders of the ancient world? Around 110 layer structure has been generated by using 10,800 feet scrap angles weighing 10-12 tonnes.
 
Some more interesting facts about the park
 
- Almost 150 tons of scrap was used to develop and build the sculptures in the park. Out of 150 tons, 90 tons was industrial waste and junk automobile parts.
 
- In the 5 acres of land area this park is built and closest metro station to the park would be the Hazrat Nizamuddin station on the pink line of Delhi Metro.
 
- The entry fee is free for children below 3 years of age and senior citizen above 65 years of age. For 3 to 12 years the entry fee is Rs 25 and for adults the entry fee is Rs 50. Entry is free for MCD school students.
 
- It is an eco-friendly park. It consists of 3 windmills (worth 1 KW), 3 solar trees (worth 5 KW) and rooftop solar panel of 10 KW. Therefore, SDMC has made this theme park self sufficient for running on its renewable energy.
 
- Online ticket booking is not available. Also, the park has parking facility for those who visit with their own conveyance.
