Does a mother ever stop being a mother? Of course not. A 98-year-old woman from Liverpool, England has moved into a care home to look after her 80-year-old son. Tom Keating, a Liverpool resident, moved into a care home for the elderly in Huyton in 2016, since he required additional care and support. After a year, his mother Ada Keating decided to move into the same care home so she could help look after her son, reports Liverpool Echo. The mother and son share a close bond. Tom, who never married, used to live with his mother earlier. Workers at the Moss View care home, where the two stay, say that the mother and son are inseparable. Ada used to be an auxiliary nurse. She now helps the staff at the care home look after Tom. “You never stop being a mum!”, Ada told Liverpool Echo. “I say goodnight to Tom in his room every night and I’ll go and say good morning to him,” she says.
The mother and son watch TV shows together or enjoy a game of football Ada and her late husband had four children, the eldest of whom is Tom. Ada’s grandchildren and the rest of her extended family visit the two often and are glad that they get to be together again.
Philip Daniels, who manages the Moss View care home, says it is touching to see the relationship between Ada and Tom. “It’s very rare to see mothers and their children together in the same care home and we certainly want to make their time together as special as possible,” he told the Echo.
Tom couldn’t be happier. “They’re very good here and I’m happy to see my mum more now she lives here,” he says.
“She’s very good at looking after me. Sometimes she’ll say ‘Behave yourself!’”
