A Chinese woman has reportedly given birth to twins with different DNA. Sounds impossible, right? Well, it's not.
If two babies come from one egg, the twins are called identical twins and they have identical DNA. But if the birth of twins is from different fathers, the medical phenomenon is called heteropaternal superfecundation and there is a chance that the babies might have different DNA.
According to experts, it can only happen if a woman has sex with two different partners in a short timespan.
The woman in question is from Xiamen City and she gave birth to twins from separate fathers. According to reports, the twins’ father was suspicious that one of the babies didn’t look like him and the mother was forced to admit that she cheated on her husband in a one-night stand.
The final DNA results of the babies confused the father and the mother was left with no choice but, to tell the truth, reported Strait Herald.
The rather tragic story was revealed after the couple had to register their twin sons at the local police station early last year. The registration process required the parents to produce the results of a paternity test.
The director of the Fujian Zhengtai Forensic Identification Centre, the agency which conducted the paternity test for the twins, gave the news of the birth to Strait Herald.
According to the director, the woman’s husband was enraged after knowing he was not the father of one of the twin boys. The director also added the mother tried to cover up her actions by accusing her husband of falsifying the DNA results.
After finding the truth, the father decided to raise his own child.
