These Are The Worst Passwords Of 2017, Because No One Changed Their Password From Last Year

It's time for the best of the worst passwords that are still in use in 2017. And it's awfully clear that humanity's incapable of choosing strong passwords to safeguard themselves online.

Make no mistakes, this is nothing to be proud of. It's just a collective mourning of the hopelessness of 'online security'.

For the second year in a row, "123456" came up on top as the most used password online. This assessment was made based on hundreds of millions of plain text passwords leaked online this year, thanks to data breach incidents at various websites and providers. Just last week we reported how 1.4 billion passwords were stolen from popular websites, and it mirrored the worst passwords trend.

So here are the 10 worst passwords of 2017...

1 - 123456 (unchanged since last year)
2 - password
3 - 12345678
4 - qwerty
5 - 12345
6 - 123456789
7 - letmein
8 - 1234567
9 - football
10 - iloveyou

While having "123456" as your password is downright bad, other passwords found on this year's list of Top 100 Worst Passwords of 2017 are enough to give IT managers their worst nightmares.

When everyone agrees that passwords should be more complex than simple words or number sequences, why do people still use such bad passwords that can be guessed so easily? Simple answer to that is people just don't change their passwords. Or even if they do, they like to rotate between few equally bad or worse passwords that they can remember easily.

When picking a strong password, make sure it isn't a dictionary word -- which can be easily guessed by hackers. A password should be at least 8 characters long, if not longer, and should be a mixture of alphabets, special characters and numbers. It should be never revealed to anyone, and using just one password across multiple websites is a very bad idea -- because if passwords from one website is leaked by bad guys, it pretty much compromises the security of all of your other online accounts that have the same password.
