Gurdwaras to take old notes in donation till Dec 31, won’t issue receipt: SGPC
Saturday, November 12, 2016 IST
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Friday chose not to offer receipts to contributors offering demonetised cash notes in the altars under its control.
The guidelines sent by advisory group president Kirpal Singh Badungar would get to be viable from midnight.
Enthusiasts going by gurdwaras give donation for getting krah prasad for which a receipt is given or place cash in golaks (mid-sections), for which no receipt is given.
Gifts come in lakhs consistently in type of cash notes in SGPC-run gurdwaras, especially Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple) in Amritsar. Representatives of Amritsar-based branches of different banks visit the Golden Temple consistently to gather money.
Likewise, catching that its lower-rung staff managing gifts may trade the notes of `500 and `1,000 category with low-esteem noticed, the SGPC issued strict directions to its workers not to change the cash.
Then, the benefactors could keep on putting gifts as demonitised coin notes in gurdwara mid-sections till December 31.
"The guidelines are clear from our side. On the off chance that we offer a receipt, it implies we are perceiving the cash demonetised by the Reserve Bank of India," said SGPC boss secretary Harcharan Singh, who took a shot at top positions in Punjab and Sindh bank.
