Gold teaser: Akshay Kumar is out there to win the world in pre-independence era

Directed by Reema Kagti, Gold presents Akshay Kumar as a hockey player who aims to win the top medal for India at the Olympics.

Before the release of PadMan on February 9, Akshay Kumar has teased his next film Gold, and going by the looks of it, it seems he has another winner on his hands.

The 1:07-minute teaser video presents Akshay Kumar as a gritty hockey player who wants to win the Olympic gold for India and not for British India. The year is 1946 when intends to change the course of history by presenting India as an independent hockey player nation on the world map.

Directed by Reema Kagti, who has earlier directed Talaash, the film explores what it meant to be a patriotic player in the pre-independence era. The film also marks the Bollywood debut of TV actor Mouni Roy.

It was earlier reported that Gold is a biopic on former hockey player Balbir Singh Sr. In an interview, producer Ritesh Sidhwani denied it being a biopic. He said, “It is not a biopic. It is a completely fictional story but it is set against a real backdrop between 1933-48 India about what the country was, the sports... About hockey. It is not based on any character.”

Gold is scheduled to hit the screens on August 15, 2018.
