CBSE marksheets to do away with

CBSE marksheets will no longer carry the words 'Failed' or 'Compartmental' in order to reduce the mental pressure on students, protect their mental health, and keep up their enthusiasm to perform better in future.

It is no secret that CBSE board exams or the state board exams can play havoc with the psyche of students - not just with pre-exam stress, but also with post-result stress when students are unable to score as per their expectations. In order to reduce the mental pressure of students, CBSE has decided to do away with the words 'Failed' and 'Compartmental' on marksheets. CBSE has reportedly also asked CBSE school principals and regional offices to decide on replacement terms that can be used on the CBSE marksheets.

This new policy by CBSE to protect the mental health of students is set to be finalised soon.

CBSE's decision aimed at reducing mental stress on students

Sometimes, looking at harsh words on the CBSE marksheet, students get severely impacted. Even if they do not take drastic steps such as an attempt on their own life due to being unable to cope with that stress, at times, the mental pressure is not very apparent.

Students might be impacted subconsciously and a trauma might take root in their minds in relation to the terms of 'failed' or 'compartmental' on the CBSE marksheet.

He or she might even develop an intense fear of major exams which can be very harmful in building a career. Apart from that, students often start suffering from clinical depression because of the impact of these negative words.

Moreover, even if a student doesn't take a serious hit to their mental health because of these terms, they would nevertheless reduce their enthusiasm to deal with their failure in the exams as they are demotivating words.

Thus, CBSE is trying to reduce such instance by doing away with these two negative words from its marksheets.

School principals and regional offices need to find alternatives

As per a Live Hindustan report, CBSE has asked school principals and its regional offices to think of alternative terms to 'failed' and 'compartmental' which can be used on the CBSE marksheets and won't have a severe impact on the psyche of students.

School principals have been reportedly asked to send four such replacement words.

The board has suggested that 'compartmental' can be replaced with 'special' exam, 'second' exam, or 'supplementary' exam, while 'failed' can be replaced with 'unqualified' or 'not qualified'.

In fact, CBSE schools also have to use these terms in their final results once CBSE finalises this policy.

How are 'failed' and 'compartmental' used in CBSE marksheets?

Currently, students who fail in more than two subjects are tagged as 'Failed' on their marksheets, while those who fail in two or fewer subjects are tagged as 'compartmental' result holders.

If CBSE implements its new proposal, then other terms will be used in place of these two to reduce the mental pressure on students.
