Navjot Sidhu Of Congress Gets One Year In Jail From Supreme Court

New Delhi: Congress pioneer Navjot Singh Sidhu was today condemned by the Supreme Court to one year in prison in a 34-year-old irrational anger case. The cricketer-turned-lawmaker should give up and serve a year's "thorough detainment", the court said.
 
"Will submit to the magnificence of law...," tweeted the previous Punjab Congress boss, 58, who had taken an interest in a dissent on fuel costs today.
 
The Supreme Court gave its decision on a request by the group of many more than one a man fight with Mr Sidhu and his companion in 1988. The family had requested graver charges against Mr Sidhu and a survey of a 2018 request for the Supreme Court vindicating him of homicide accusations and forcing a ₹ 1,000-fine.
 
On December 27, 1988, Mr Sidhu got into a contention with Gurnam Singh, an inhabitant of Patiala, over a parking space. Mr Sidhu and his companion, Rupinder Singh Sandhu, supposedly hauled Gurnam Singh out of his vehicle and hit him. He later passed on in clinic.
 
In 1999, a meetings court in Patiala cleared Mr Sidhu refering to absence of proof and assuming the best about him.
 
On a request testing this decision, the Punjab and Haryana High court indicted Mr Sidhu in 2006 of guilty murder and condemned him to three years in prison.
 
In 2018, Mr Sidhu moved toward the Supreme Court, which said the case was north of 30 years of age and Mr Sidhu had not utilized a weapon. Mr Sidhu was just held at real fault for attacking a senior resident, saved a prison term and fined ₹ 1,000.

 
 

The Supreme Court additionally vindicated Mr Sidhu's companion of all charges saying there could have been no appropriate proof he was available at the spot.
 
The group of the person in question, Gurnam Singh, mentioned the Supreme Court to survey its organization and think about harder charges. Mr Sidhu tested the family's request and has wound up with a prison sentence.
 
For north of thirty years, the case has hounded Mr Sidhu, who as of late stopped as Punjab Congress boss after his party's loss in state races.
