Oath in Delhi Schools for Boys to Behave Well with Girls: Kejriwal

Speaking at an event, Kejriwal said mothers and sisters need to talk to boys that they will not accept them at home if they do wrong to women.

All male students in both private and government schools in Delhi will now have to take an oath not to violate a woman's dignity, CM Arvind Kejriwal announced on Tuesday.

Addressing a FICCI event whose audience were largely women, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, "We have decided that in all Delhi school, including private schools, a pledge will be administered to the boys to the effect that he will not violate any girl's dignity".  The chief minister reiterated that this pledge will be repeated at regular intervals over a period of time.

Kejriwal also said that female students will be asked to speak to their brothers at home and advise them against indulging in any wrongdoing or they would break their ties with them. "All girls will be told to speak to their brothers,  even if it is a formality and you feel that your brother is incapable of any such activities, but you have to talk to them. All the girls will have to report their conversation in the classes in which they will have to tell their brothers that if they do anything they shouldn't come home and stop calling them their sister".

Chief Minister also indicated that conversations on rapes, molestation and crimes against women have to happen at home, mothers have to speak to their sons and sisters to their brothers.  "We have to speak to our men itself with an open heart about what is happening and why it is happening. We also have to make them understand that id this happens to their mothers and sisters then will they be able to tolerate it?' Kejriwal said.

Detailing the steps taken by the Delhi government to make the capital safer for women, the chief minister mentioned that three lakh cctv cameras that are being installed, the two lakh street lights that will be installed in dark spots soon and thirteen thousand marshals have been employed for patrolling inside Delhi government and cluster buses.

"If we can eliminate corruption within 49 days, we can also build a system whereby women can be assured of their safety. This can be done. Women can be safe. This is not something that cannot be achieved. The only condition is that confidence has to be generated among women."

"If the police are given a message from the top that women have to be provided safety the police force will also step up.  That confidence has to be generated," he said.
