The service, which covers the whole of Delhi and the neighbouring states of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, was launched at Terminal 3 on Friday by Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), the IGIA operator, which is collaborating with a Bengaluru-based firm, CarterX.
The charges will vary according to the number, size and the weight of the luggage and the distance of the pick-up/drop point, DIAL said. The charges start from Rs 299 and there is no separate delivery fee for Delhi, said a CarterX spokesperson. “The locations in the neighbouring states are considered outstation and charges are applicable pincode-wise,” he added.
The facility is now available only at T3 for both international and domestic flights. “A passenger flying out of Delhi can book their baggage through the CarterX website or through its mobile application,” said a DIAL spokesperson. The booking will soon be available on the IGIA website, www.newdelhiairport.in.
CarterX doesn’t charge anything for a luggage weighing up to 20kg, said its spokesperson. For every extra 5kg, an additional Rs 100 will be charged. “The maximum weight of a bag can be 40kg and the charges will also vary according to its dimension. We accept dimensions as per the airlines’ guidelines. Additional charges are decided after an inspection,” he added.
For the out-bound flyers, the luggage will be delivered to them on their chosen time slot at the airport so that they can proceed for check-in, the spokesperson said. The passengers arriving in Delhi can book their luggage from their outstation locations and the bags will be collected after they reach IGIA. “The bags will then be delivered to the address provided by them,” he added.
DIAL said each luggage, once booked, would be secured in tamper-resistant sealed bags and marked and barcoded for easy identification. They will be insured by the service-providing company.
