9 Women Who Were Mercilessly Shamed On Social Media For Choosing To Wear, Well Clothes

How often do you think women get slut-shamed or body-shamed?  The answer — disturbingly often. Even now, while you were reading this article, someone with a mind as narrow as a hair strand would be insulting a woman based on the way she looks or the clothes she wears. And since social media is a convenient way to say whatever comes to your mind, without taking responsibility for your words, sanskari critics are using it their advantage. Body shaming and slut-shaming have become so common that people mostly ignore such comments these days. Because trying to reason with the social media moral police is not the best use of one’s time.

When it comes to slut-shaming, celebrities are the people who have often targeted the most because they are popular and their profiles are public. While some of them choose to stay mum and endure all the insults, a few others stand up for themselves and react against the vulgar judgments. In this article, we will introduce you to 9 women celebrities who were mercilessly shamed on social media for the way they dressed. Read on to know more.

1. Mithali Raj

Mithali Raj, the captain of the Indian Women’s Cricket team was belittled for wearing a black strappy top. Some people on Twitter got so offended that they asked Mithali to take down the image. However, some other people supported her and asked the slut-shamers to take down their comments and to work on their narrow minds.

2. Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Bollywood’s international icon was trolled for wearing a tricolor scarf around her neck. She wore the scarf along with a white sleeveless top and blue jeans and looked very proud flaunting the tricolors. While many people got mad at her online and commented that she was insulting our national flag, her fans defended her by pointing out that there was no Ashoka Chakraon the scarf. They also said that Priyanka is making our country proud by working in Hollywood.

3. Ankita Lokhande

Ankita Lokhande is a victim of constant slut-shaming on social media as the moral police find it very difficult to digest her bold photographs after watching her as the adarsh bahu on TV. She also gets shamed for her break up with Sushant Singh Rajput, who was her long term boyfriend and on-screen husband in Pavitra Rishta. Ankita responded with grace and positivity to shut down the trolls.

4. Priyanka Again!

Remember Priyanka Chopra’s brown dress that she wore to the MET Gala in 2017? It was like Christmas for the meme-makers because just one photograph of hers spawned a hundred memes. People didn’t spare her for her choice of clothing and compared her gown to random objects like a pizza crust, cookie, and even a mop!

5. Safa Baig

Model Safa Baig, who is also cricketer Irfan Pathan’s wife got trolled because she wore nail colors! She was deemed ‘un-Islamic’ and asked to wear Mehendi instead of nail paint by some trolls. Irfan tweeted a message as his reply to the trollers, “I repeat :) If there is more love than hate I think we are doing alright. #spreadlove.” We’re glad Safa has a sensible husband.

6. Aneri Vajani

Popular mini-screen actress Aneri Vjani was body-shamed and slut-shamed for wearing a bikini that wasn’t “fit” according to the social media “experts.” They called her “ugly” and “malnourished” for being slim. Soon after the social media morality attacks, Aneri gave the trolls a piece of her mind by saying that since it’s her body, she will wear whatever she wishes to wear.

7. Fatima Sana Shaikh

Fatima, the Dangal girl was trolled badly on the Internet for posting a picture of her in a bikini while vacaying in the Maldives. Morality uncles and aunties demanded her to “show some dignity, at least, in this pious month of Ramzan.” They also got into heated arguments online with people who tried to defend her.

8. Sonarika Bhadoria

Sonarika, the popular television actress got ridiculed for wearing this beautiful bikini because she played a goddess in the serial Devon ka Dev-Mahadev. Yes, it’s as terrible as it sounds.

9. Nia Sharma

Nia Sharma, who was ranked third among the sexiest Asian women by UK newspaper Eastern Eye, was also a victim of the slut-shaming on social media. The mini-screen actress who was right behind Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra was questioned for her bold pictures on her Instagram account. The online moral police humiliated her for behaving like a “slut” in a video that she posted. Nia gracefully posted another video and said “Oops! Here’s one more from the photoshoot. Ready to slut-shame a girl again? Go ahead…I’ll post five more…Coz that’s exactly (why) I got this shoot done….!”

When people call out someone for their choice of clothes and tag them as ridiculous, they don’t realize that they are the ones who are being ridiculous. The extent to which someone covers their skin doesn’t say anything about their character, and it’s completely their choice.

  Thought of the Day
