WATCH: Dreams do come true, eras collide as Kapil Dev throws surprise bouncer to MS Dhoni at Eden Gardens.

Kolkata: To compare different players from different eras has always been difficult and are part of endless arguments.

From Sunil Gavaskar's centuries to that of Sachin Tendulkar, from Viv Richards batting explosives to that of Virender Sehwag, with Shoaib Akhtar and Brett Lee's pace being compared to that of West Indian great bowling quartet - Joel Garner, Michael Holding, Colin Croft and Sir Andy Roberts, there are many comparisons which are just imagined but cannot happen in the present to settle arguments.

However, one such comparative narration did happen in the present. Hero and the captain of 1983 World Cup Kapil Dev was up against the best finisher and two World Cup winner (ODIs and T20Is) MS Dhoni. India’s two World Cup winning skippers, Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni, on Thursday, gave the cricket fans a moment to cheer for a lifetime as the two took on each other on the pitch. With a bunch of kids around them, while shooting for a commercial at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, which was arranged by another former India captain Sourav Ganguly – who took India to 2003 World Cup final, Kapil not only bowled to Dhoni, but also surprised him with a bouncer! TRENDING: MSD's hair-stylist friend Sapna Moti Bhavnani reveals interesting story behind his viral dance video Dhoni, the skipper of World Cup 2011 team, batted first and played some dashing strokes. The former skipper was also seen inspecting the Eden Gardens pitch for a while. After some time, Kapil – the skipper of 1983 World Cup winning team, occupied the batting crease while Dhoni did some bowling.

A group of children and teenagers joined and applauded the duo, as part of the shooting, which would finally take the shape of a 30-second advertisement.

Noted filmmaker-actor Arindam Sil, directing his first television ad, seemed elated, filled with nostalgia.

"It is a dream come true. I have been a fan of these two great cricketers since long. I loved it so much to watch them play. And now to direct them during a game of cricket, and that too, at the hallowed Eden Gardens, that's something I will cherish forever," said Sil, who has directed several Byomkesh thrillers.

Sil said Kapil, now all of 58 years, initially said bowling at this age would wear him down. However, once he had the cherry in his hand, the legendary all-rounder looked a bundle of energy.

"He went on and on. And then when he batted, it seemed the Kapil Dev of yore was back," said Sil.

But it was Dhoni who seemed to Sil as a natural actor. The dashing wicketkeeper-batsman never required a retake.

"I never had to ask for a retake from him. He was his natural self before the camera, cool and composed".

The Ranchi stumper took time off from the gruelling shoot to give cricketing tips to the youngsters.

"He was always smiling and seemed very pally with the kids. He gave them tips on playing aggressively, on what is the best stance," said Sil.

There was a buzz all around, as lensmen and electronic media camerapersons rushed to get visuals of all three in their frames.
