Hottest, Coldest, Highest And More: India

India is one of the most ecologically diverse countries in the world. And with such diversity, it also homes some of the most bizarre and unusual places which have extreme climatic conditions. As extreme are these places, experiencing them is as much a matter of adventure and exhilaration.

These are some of the most extreme points in India:

Coldest

Drass- Drass is the coldest place in India that can be visited by tourists. Situated on the Srinagar-Leh Highway not far from Kargil, Drass is also known as the Gateway to Ladakh. It has recorded temperature of -45 degree celsius during winters, and the average winter temperature remains below zero degree.

Hottest

Phalodi- Rajasthan is known for its hot climate, and Phalodi marked by the Thar desert is the hottest place in India, with temperature shooting up as high as 51 degree celsius. However, that doesn't deter people from settling here or beautiful cranes from visiting it.

Wettest

Mawsynram- Not just India, Mawsynram holds the title of being the wettest place on earth. Located in the East Khasi Hills in Meghalaya, Mawsynram is a nature's treasure.

Driest

Leh- A different terrain high up in the mountains, rain shadowed by the altius Himalayan peaks, Leh receives the least rainfall in India- less than 10cms in a year, making it a cold desert. It makes Leh one of the most visited destinations in India in the monsoon months when it rains in other parts of India.

Lowest

Kuttanad- Also known as the Netherlands of India, parts of Kuttanad lie below the sea level, and farming is practiced at an altitude of -3 metres. Kuttanad is the lowest point on the Indian landmass.

Highest

Kanchenjunga- The 3rd highest mountain of the world lies at the border of Nepal and India. The altitude of 8,586metres above sea level isn't a cake walk to climb.
