When The Homeless Owner Ended Up In Hospital, His Dogs Waited For Him Patiently Outside

On the 2nd of January 2019, a homeless man in Brazil had to be urgently taken to a hospital because he had had a stroke. He didn’t have a roof to live under but he did have loving companions. Six of them stayed by him the whole time and couldn’t be prevailed upon to leave him alone. Luckily the staff at the hospital took videos of the entire incident.

Their videos showed the dogs running behind the ambulance all the way to the entrance of the hospital. They were breathless and panting but they didn’t stop until they were prevented from walking into the ER. But not being able to follow him in didn’t discourage them in the least. The dogs simply decided to camp outside the building.

An NGO working to save animals, Amigos de Patas Cianorte, sent workers to the hospital upon receiving summons to help the dogs who were in obvious distress. They took time out to give the dogs food and even took pictures of the loyal animals as they patiently waited throughout the cold night for their friend to be brought back to them.

The residents of Cianorte had grown used to the sight of Luiz and his pets as he had lived there for more than two decades. Even though several people, including his family, had attempted over the years to get him a place to live, Luiz had rejected all their ideas because he simply preferred living outside with his faithful pack of dogs.

Amigos de Patas Cianorte posted on their Facebook page about Luiz. They wrote about how he takes good care of the dogs and how he shares his whole life with them. When he had the stroke his buddies followed him to the hospital and waited for him, crying the whole time. They sat vigil as the doctors were saving his life.

By the time the sun came up, Luiz’s condition had stabilized and he was discharged into his family’s care. This was confirmed by Amigos de Patas Cianorte. But since he had to use another exit, he was not able to immediately reunite with his canine family.

One of the workers at Amigos de Patas Cianorte, Simone Ziliane, spoke about how the dogs were desperately waiting to see him. They had started howling when he was taken into the hospital and out of their sight. When he was released to his family and had to leave through a different exit, his dogs stayed at the hospital entrance still waiting for him. The NGO had to send a worker to get Luiz from where he was staying with his brother so that he could meet the dogs who were still looking out for him at the hospital. Luiz had had no idea that they were waiting for him but the idea didn’t come as a shock to him.

Now that he is better, the whole pack has been reunited. The kind of loyalty exhibited by Luiz’s canine buddies only goes to show that the loyalty of a well treated pet should never be taken lightly.

Zile also revealed that the dogs had earlier been taken to kennels run by the NGO. They had quickly jumped over a wall and soon enough, they found their way back to Luiz. No matter where Luiz is, the dogs are always somewhere close by.

Luiz, who also suffers from other psychiatric issues, accepted the offer of a shower and some food while his dogs were cared for. By the time the end of the week rolled around, he returned to his home on the street with his family.

This heart-warming incident only goes on to prove how unconditional and faithful these animals are. We, as human beings have failed them on so many accounts for our selfish reasons. But they unflinchingly take care of us and love us forever.
