New Delhi: Opposition presidential candidate Meira Kumar filed her nomination papers on Wednesday for the July 17 race amid which she will go up against NDA's Ram Nath Kovind.

Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, previous PM Manmohan Singh, TMC MP Derek "o" Brian, JD-U pioneer Sharad Pawar and a few others were available amid the documenting of selection in Parliament before Lok Sabha Secretary General, the returning officer for the presidential race.

Punjab's Amarinder Singh, Karnataka's Siddaramaiah and Puducherry's Narayanswamy were among the Congress boss pastors who were available when Kumar documented the papers in Parliament

Congress VP Rahul Gandhi, who was lost without a trace, lauded Meira Kumar and supported her presidential candidature in a tweet.

''Against philosophy of divisiveness, she speaks to values that predicament us as a country, glad to have Meira Kumar as our hopeful,'' Rahul Gandhi said in the tweet.

Before documenting her selection papers, Kumar went to Rajghat and paid botanical tribute to 'Father of The Nation' Mahatma Gandhi.

Amid a public interview on Tuesday, Kumar had emphasized that there ought not be oneupmanship on rank for the post of President.

Talking on the development of two groups, each supporting the two presidential applicants, Kumar said that 17 political gatherings have extended their help to her.

"I have written to the collegium of MPs and MLAs and asked for their support. I have requested them to listen to the inner voice of conscience," she said.

Reacting to a fake on Janata Dal (United) supporting NDA presidential applicant Ram Nath Kovind, Kumar stated, "Such things occur in governmental issues. I will choose what to do at the perfect time."

Kumar said that she will begin her presidential battle from Gujarat's Sabarmati Ashram.

The 75-year-old previous Lok Sabha Speaker has been grabbed by 17 political parties against the decision NDA's candidate Ram Nath Kovind. She has pitched the presidential challenge as a ''clash of philosophies'' and not a ''Dalit versus Dalit'' battle.

Kumar has been hollowed against National Democratic Alliance ( NDA) presidential chosen one Ram Nath Kovind by the resistance.

The presidential decisions are set to occur on July 17.
